The Blizzard of 1996 brought much of the eastern United States to a complete standstill. All along the eastern seaboard schools, offices, roads and airports were closed for several days. Making matters even worse, two subsequent snowstorms hit the region hard within a week and a half of the first blast. By the end of the two-week cataclysm, more than 100 people were dead.
